I swear this spring it was getting to the point where I thought spring would never arrive. I jeaously looked at my west coast friends' pictures of sun and blooms on Facebook, while it was still brown, drab and cold at my house. I still have a hard time believing the snow is done!
Here are some pretty flower pictures taken from April 9 through the present. These crocuses were the first up.
There's a rose of Sharon bush on the side of my house. It's another one that blooms first and is the prettiest shade of light purple.

This is the third spring in this house and this was the first year I noticed that the tree on the side of the driveway was a dogwood.

The lilacs finally bloomed by around May 20th. The front yard smelled delicious. I wish they lasted longer and bloomed more than once a year.

Beautiful pictures. I miss having a yard with lots of flowers. We enjoy the blossoms in the park outside our windows, but there are no flower beds.
ReplyDeleteThanks! Well I'm not a gardener....I don't like yardwork at all, so I'm very happy that the landlord's mother (who used to live here before she passed) did such a great job. We have a rolling cycle of flowers in the yard...as some are dying off, others are blooming.
DeleteI like the color you've captured. Periwinkle is a favorite (like that blue-purple color) . Our azaleas, rhodos, some early roses, and lilacs are still blooming up our way in BC. I loved the red geraniums in Paris, so they've been a fave with me and they last until October most times.

Violas! I KNEW they had another name. I've only been hearing 'johnny jump up' since I moved back here but I could not think of their real name.
DeleteI LOVE flowers. If I strike it rich, I will always have fresh flowers in my house. However, I want a yard full of them too!

ReplyDeleteI especially love the photo of the sweet little Lily of the Valley, their little white bells look so dainty and adorable.
And the Lily of the Valley smells so good too. One of my friends thinks they are a weed b/c they take over, but I love them.
DeleteI'm of the opinion that one cannot celebrate spring too much. I love everything about spring and could look at beautiful flower pictures (like yours) for hours!

DeleteOh how gorgeous! I feel the same about lilacs as you do. We have one, which is spreading. We hope to have the whole back fence covered eventually. I love flox, too, keeps the weeds away! My roses are just starting to bloom, and my columbine are doing great. Of course they are fighting with the thistles...but eventually I'll be able to get out there and kick their asses...

DeleteBeautiful pictures!! I know what you mean about winter. I thought it would never end. I waited until Memorial Day weekend to even buy flowers to plant because it had been so cold before. Usually we have flowers planted 2 weeks earlier.

DeleteBeautiful JoJo! Crocuses are our provincial flower - the first to come up each Spring (sometimes through the snow!).
ReplyDeleteYesterday I picked some flowers from my Dad's garden and pressed them. I'm going to make a Grandpa's Garden book for him to remember his beautiful garden now that they moved from their home...
What a great idea!!! Do you just press them in wax paper in a book for awhile? I've only done that with leaves.
