Mattapoisett Do-Over and Bonus Walk

Sick of Southeastern MA yet?  ;-)

It's not often we get a 68 degree sunny day so I headed back out to Mattapoisett to track down Ned's Point Lighthouse.

I didn't realize that there was a small beach next to it, so I explored there first.

I found a lot of glass.  Not totally worn and there were way more fresh pieces, but I picked up anything that looked a little frosted and didn't cut me.

It's the beach where brown bottles go to die apparently.  Again, not that I'm advocating littering, but if you must drink & shatter glass at the beach, please remember that Bud Light now comes in cobalt blue bottles.

I got home around Noon, ate some lunch...checked in on Facebook.  But it was just so incredibly gorgeous out that I had to go for a walk on the Canal.  I did a little over 2 miles round trip, bridge to bridge.

I saw a whale too!  L41, Mega, was visiting from the Salish Sea.  hahaha  I was surprised to find such a large toy right on the service road and I'm sure it belonged to one of the many children in strollers, but hey you know, finders keepers and all that.  I would have returned it if I actually heard an upset kid or parents looking for it, but I didn't so yeah, mine.

This was on the other side, at the RV campground.  People really make themselves at home.

No idea what this is but it's all over.

We're very lucky to have this awesome waterway on which to walk!

  1. Lovely pictures. You do have a nice spot to enjoy and walk. Not sure about the glass, don't think I would have collected it. Looked like it needed more time in the sea. Lighthouses are always interesting. Can you visit inside this one? Some of the ones in NC can be climbed - not that I could do it, but some of our party did.

    1. I can always use this 'partially cooked' glass for crafts or something. I'm just addicted to glass. I'm not sure if this lighthouse is operational or able to be visited. The light wasn't on and it was closed up. There are some lighthouses that can be climbed, like the one in Truro, but most are closed to the public.

  2. I'll never get tired of seeing what you see! I'll be sure to bring a bud light next time I go to a beach...though the idea of littering kills me...

    1. I've actually been tempted to buy stuff made with red glass, smash it and bring it to the beach to dump in the water out past the sand bars at low tide. That way it won't cut anyone's feet and there'd be more of a chance of finally finding rare red pieces.

  3. So many pristine places. Don't like the cop-out of fracking (we need renewables, not more fossil fuels) but our idiots over here don't understand that ANY fracking site will literally be in someone's back yard. They even want to legalise fracking under someone's own home!

    1. So far this area is safe from fracking. I'm not sure if that's true of all of New England but here's hoping!

  4. Beautiful as usual, JoJo, and I particularly liked the old lighthouse and stones on the beach photos. You do have a beautiflul walking area, and good for you walking it. The fresh air and the Vit D can't hurt. (sea air and all that)

    1. Thanks! Well my D levels were at 15 the last time I had a blood test, so that's not good. And like I said I was trapped in the house by snow and cold so I'm trying to make up for lost time. Having the Canal so close by is a godsend.

  8. Something about lighthouses - they are so romantic. And they clearly provide great glass shards for you. I'd buy a Bud Light, just to admire the cobalt blue, which I'd smash and then send to you (after dumping the beer, or feeding the grass with it).

  9. Hi JoJo,

"Something about lighthouses" Sounds like the name of a film, Mary the Lighthouse, perhaps. Another pictorial delight, JoJo. And before I make a glass of myself. I wonder if American beer is still as crap as I remember.....

    Thank you, JoJo.

    1. Thanks! Well...to me all beer is crap so I'm a bad person to ask. But I did try a Budweiser in Canada once and was surprised at how strong it was. Try as i might, I just cannot stand the taste of beer.

  10. Water view make sme calm.. I wish to walk along the shore there in your pictures.
We went to the lake last weekend and were lucky to experience good windy weather there, after such a boiling hot day!
You can still use that found glass for one of your brave and beautiful projects :)
    Have a lovely day Jojo!

    1. Thanks! Having grown up near the ocean, I can never live far away from salt water. That's why I lived in California & Washington, on the other coast. Water makes all things better.
