When You Have to 'Plan B' It

I'd gotten myself so jazzed to go up to Boston that I kinda spur of the moment decided on a Saturday to make the trip on the Monday.  Unfortunately, the weather forecast didn't cooperate at all.  While it was going to be warm enough to wear shorts, it was also going to be pretty cloudy with just a few short sun breaks.  Plus, the day before I was at my mom's bailing water out of her broken washing machine, using a small saucepan and then a coffee cup down at the bottom.  The damn machine was nearly full too.  When I got up at 6:30 on Monday morning, my back and right elbow (the one I fell on a few weeks ago) were screaming.  Since I wanted to make the 7:55 bus, I had to make a quick executive decision to bag it.  I just knew I was gonna regret not waiting for a guaranteed nice day, esp. with the packed itinerary I had outlined. The other sign that I should not be so hasty with the trip is that the Mapparium at the Christian Science Building isn't open on Mondays, and I really wanted to see that again too.

So I did a few crafts in the morning and by 12:00, the sun was forcing it's way out at my house.  I decided to go take some pics in Bourne.  I probably should have waited till the trees were more in bloom but what the heck.  

Bourne was originally part of Sandwich, but was incorporated in 1884, and is named after Jonathan Bourne.  It's divided by the Canal, which means that I live in the part that is still on the mainland. Whether or not Buzzards Bay and Sagamore Beach are part of Cape Cod has been hotly debated. Those on the other side say no, but we say yes.  For one, we're still in Barnstable County, which is all of the Cape. For another, the Cape is considered a peninsula, even though it technically has water on all sides like an island.  The man-made Canal is what made it into an island, therefore it's not OUR fault that they decided to bisect the town with a giant shipping lane.  But I digress.  Here's Part 1 of my adventure.  This an aerial view of where I was shooting pics, which would be the bit of land in the bottom right corner under the Canal (between Sandwich road and the water), and between the 2 bridges.  I live in the top right corner above the Canal.

I started near the rotary on my side, before crossing the bridge.  Good to know I have a place to take my pet giraffe.  

Sandy's is a restaurant.  I have not been to it.

Now we're across the bridge on the Cape side of  Bourne.  This is the public library.

I am assuming that's a non-working sundial.
