That was my answer to Russell's "You just can't leave anything alone, can you babe?" query. I'd bought another bottle of Jones Cream Soda at the grocery store and I actually did walk over to the trash with the bottle. Then I hesitated before tossing it in the bin and looked at it. I just couldn't make myself throw it out. So I rinsed it and let it dry, dug out my bags of sequins and E6000 glue.
I forgot that I had a small baggie of sparklie circles that had no holes in the center like regular sequins and knew they'd be exactly what I needed for this project. First I put a row of the larger flowers around the top and bottom of the label, then started adding the rows of circles. Russell came out to the kitchen at one point and watched me working and said, 'looks tedious.' It really wasn't. It went fairly quickly. I got the best results by putting a thin line of glue on the bottle, then I touched the tip of a toothpick to the glue and touched the circle and it worked perfectly to pick it up and set it into place, and didn't leave any residue on the sparkle. Using that method, setting the circles into place went very quickly. There is no way I could have done this using my fingers to pick up the circles.
But was I done yet? Of course not! I had to add rhinestones on the label too.

I prefer Green Apple but I can't find it out here anymore. I could buy it from them directly but haven't yet. These are the good folks that bring you some wacky flavours like gravy, dirt & perspiration in addition to their normal flavours.

Perhaps one day you'll see me featured in one of those Discovery shows about hoarders: Crazy Dog Lady In Curaçao Arrested For Stealing Recycling Bin or something like that :D Difference is, I don't produce nearly as much beauty (or creativity) as you do. Kudos--awesome bottle.

DeleteLovely ! You don't waste anything. There's a girl here has a facebook page where she spray bottles of wine,champagne etc with glitter and wine glasses ,put them in a box and charges twice the price.You should try something like that,with an unopened bottle.
ReplyDeletei'm not sure I could do that with an unopened bottle because of the whole copyright infringement thing. I have seen glittered wine glasses and have thought about it, but it seems everyone wants them dishwasher safe. I don't know why people can't take a grand total of 3 minutes to carefully hand wash but they don't.
DeleteWhat an enhancement to the lowly bottle. Jones soda is easy to find here. I save bottles too, usually to reuse for homemade liqueurs or vinegars. I saved one raspberry liqueur bottle and it makes a great slim rolling pin for crushing crackers. Recycling works.
ReplyDeleteI was able to get all their flavours too when I lived in Washington. But here there are only a couple flavours. I am kicking myself for not buying that Seahawks special edition that they came out with in 2007 or so...it was a 12 pack I think and that's the one that contained the gross dirt and perspiration sodas. It was only sold at a select few markets and I never got around to getting there, plus they sold out so fast too. I wouldn't have opened and drank those, or decorated them either.

ReplyDeleteRe the wine and champagne bottles - I don't know about USA but over here you're not allowed to sell alcohol without a licence - a lot of people have started to sell glittered bottles and glasses and they don't seem to realise that it's actually breaking the law!

Oh you can't do it here either. A couple comments up my friend Anne mentioned someone glittering bottles of unopened product and selling them. That's highly illegal here, whether or not it's liquor or soda pop. Anne lives in the UK.
DeleteYou have never-ending patience, JoJo. I used that glue for my slumped bottle and that stuff rock and rolls! The bottle came out great. I say you send a picture into them. You never know….
