Much Ado About Nothing

The local media got the entire region whipped up into a panicked frenzy starting on the 23rd about the mother of all blizzards that was going to wallop half of Massachusetts and the greater Eastern Seaboard.  The speculation and breathless updates, especially by WCVB up in Boston, were ridiculous.  Then the National Weather Service and one of the Cape Cod sites piled on with their predictions and that made for a very uneasy area.  Everyone was talking about it and preparing.  I was upset only because I didn't want Russell caught on the road in it.  They were making it sound like we were going to have 21" of snow with hurricane force winds by the 26th.

I spent Monday and Tuesday shopping, cleaning, doing errands and laundry...I ran into Sandwich real quick too.  I set up the generator and tested it.  I was as ready as I could be.  The weather people finally were able to get a handle on the various scenarios and it looked like only the Cape & Islands were going to take the direct hit. Which, by the way, was when WCVB's coverage dropped off significantly because Boston wasn't going to be affected.  The cutoff was literally at the Canal.  The wind woke me up around 2 AM so I took Pepper out but it hadn't started snowing yet.

This is what I woke up to at 7:00.  I called this picture 'Blizzards Bay'.  The snow was so fine and not accumulating but it was wicked windy.  My sweetie encountered no issues on his trip and was safe, and all my friends & fam were fine, so I was able to relax, finally.

It was windy all day and the lower Cape (Chatham, Eastham, etc) definitely had it worse than I did at my end.  Nantucket and Martha's Vineyard got the most snow and wind.

Snow stopped midday.  I spent most of the morning/early afternoon working on my cross stitch but I finally ventured outside to take some pictures around 4.

Sun struggling to come out.

The plow made one or two trips down my street but my driveway didn't even need to be done at all, which was good.

The sun was out by 6:30 but the wind was still gusting strongly.

Dark clouds to the northeast.

But sunny in the west.

Ice on my car.

I really hope this was winter's last gasp cause I really don't know how much more of this I can take!!!!

  1. Hi Jojo!
We also saw news about bad weather conditions in some parts of America, I thought of you as you used to post all the winter pics recently, and today too. I am glad you and your husband were safe and possibly this was indeed the winter's last gasp... Here the weather is not usual for this time of the year, it rains and it is windy... though supposed to be hot by now. I somehow glad it still not, they say it is bad bad for crops... Huh.what to say?
Take care of yourself, and I hope the snowy weather will change there soon to Spring-like.

    1. From your lips to god's ears, as they say! I am definitely ready for it to be warm. My electric bill has been insanely high all winter because of having to run the heat so high. Our bathroom has no heat source at all so I have a space heater in there and that uses a ton of power too.

Yup, I hate the way the weather forecasters make all storms sound like "the mother of all...." because then we never know. You made the best of a dreary day with those lovely blues and greens and ices in your pics. Hope this brings you a bountiful spring.

    1. This year we did have a lot of 'mother of all...' The storm the other day was going to be our 4th blizzard since the first of the year...not counting other lesser snow storms. Thank you so much for stopping by! :)

  3. A good thing the weather people don't always know what they are talking about I guess. They need to be forecasting sun and warming temperature. Come on spring! ♥

    1. I clearly went into the wrong line of work. If there wasn't so much math in meteorology, it would have been a cool field to go into. Personally I think they did a better job 40 years ago before double doppler radar and satelites.

We had another freak snow storm not in the forecast and this one actually accumulated and now it's nothing but rain, like torrential downpours, which is good for fire season this year but not so much for the roads. Omg. Talk about a slimey, rutty mess. I hate getting sucked into someone else muddy tracks and there's no way we're heading off of this mountain until it dries out a bit! Keep safe out there!

    1. What I can't believe is that today is 67 degrees and pouring. Now we have flooding issues. It would be great if we didn't have all 4 seasons of weather in 4 days.

Love your message to winter, very funny.

    1. Hi Anita! You are more than welcome to our snow! So you get no snow at all in winter? Does it cool off?

  8. Love your photos. Our news reports go crazy about the weather but then we don't seem to be able to cope with any snow not that we've had any this winter but when we do everything grinds to a halt. If we have any hot days in the summer warnings go out telling us to drink more water. Everybody here moans about weather it's either too hot or too cold when we actually have a fairly moderate climate all year round.

    1. Thanks Anne! Isn't it funny how they have to tell people what to do if it's too hot or too cold? I always say to the TV, 'Thank you, Captain Obvious'. lol I found the biggest weather whiners were up in Washington. NOTHING makes them happy. If it's sunny and 80, they cry, 'Heat wave! When will it end?" and two days later when it's back to rain and 70 they cry, 'Where did our summer go? Why is it raining?' Criminy. I loved the climate up there. It was perfect.
