I had a late afternoon doctor's appointment in Hyannis and found myself with a few hours to kill, so I took some pics in West Barnstable and Barnstable Village (a later post).
This store still has a wooden floor. When I was little, my mom used to take me here to get penny candy, my fave almond crescent cookies (that I can't have anymore due to a nut allergy) and caps for my capgun.
There's a train depot here.

I love old, decrepit, creepy houses.
Wandered over to the cemetery next door. Graves date back to the early and mid 1800s. Some are too deteriorated to read.
The old children's gravestones all have lambs on them.

ReplyDeleteJoJo this was like stepping back in time. What a great old place with history. Too often old places, pieces of the past, are torn down to make way for so-called progress. Progress usualy means a WalMart store and a huge asphalt parking lot. :(

Fortunately this whole Rte 6A corridor, that runs from Sagamore to Provincetown, is considered a 'historic district' so there are strict guidelines, even as far as what colour you can paint your house/trim/shutters and window a/c units aren't allowed to be seen from the street. Hyannis is a disgusting mess of strip malls, traffic and all around ugliness. I can't stand that place.
