"How Great Thou Art" is an album by Elvis Presley which came out in 1967. I am not an Elvis fan, but the picture on the front of the album is the First Church of Christ in Sandwich.

Cool! I would have thought it was somewhere near / in Memphis! I wonder how the heck they chose that one? It is beautiful, but there must be a story behind the choice...
ReplyDeleteI know! Of all the picturesque churches and chapels in the USA, esp. down south where he was from, a church on Cape Cod was used. I have never found out why.
ReplyDeleteIt is a puzzle as to why they chose to use that church on the album cover but it is a lovely little church.
ReplyDeleteAs for Elvis, my hubs likes his music and has many of his records. Me, I can take him or leave him, but at Christmas time I would prefer to skip over his Christmas CD that John always loads into the our CD player's magazine - guess I just don't appreciate Elvis's versions of Christmas carols. :D
As someone else said theter must be reason for choosing a certain church for the cover.

ReplyDeleteOh I don't believe Elvis posed for the picture....It definitely looks like it was overlaid with the church. There is absolutely no info that he ever came to Sandwich. Believe me if he had, it would be part of the town's history. It's just cool that the church was used on his album cover!
