Pin Semi-Win: Confetti Glasses

Here's another idea I just had to try!!  The original pin is HERE.  I also checked out the tutorial to see if there were any additional instructions, but it seemed fairly straightforward.  Just dot acrylic paints on a glass, put into a cold oven and heat to 200* for a half hour, then let cool in the oven.  This is the picture that I used as a guide.

I did a couple of votive cups using the paint pens I had to make the dots.  I should have overlapped them more but I didn't.

Then I stopped at the dollar store and picked up a couple of wine glasses and used another Pinterest idea of using a pencil eraser to dot the paint on and it worked pretty well to make even circles.

This was only a semi-win because they don't pass the washing test.  While I'm sure people would use care when hand washing, because let's face it, the outside of a wine glass doesn't get so filthy that it needs to be scrubbed, the paint dots peel off easily.  I also don't like how the paint dried dull and not shiny.  There has to be a better way to seal the paint and/or make it shiny.  Maybe I need different paints because all my acrylics dry dull.  I have several friends interested in buying these so I'd like to find a fix as soon as possible.  I'm open to ideas!  Anyone?  Anyone?  Bueller?

I really like this idea! You can make it match any kitchen/dining set or make it for any holiday. Even I could do this one =)

  2. Cute and happy...I like! Too bad about the dull finish and washing off that you wrote about. If I think of something that you could try, you'll be the first to know but I'm not a paint expert for sure. Hope you find a fix because they are way cool looking!

  3. The glasses are really cute. I think I would look in a craft store for some special glass paint as I've an artist friend that paints on glassware and she said when she first began painting on glass she used the wrong type of paint and all her hard work came off in the first washing. So check and see if there is a special paint designed just for glassware.
The use of the pencil eraser tip did make for more concise dots - love it.

  4. Very colorful...kind of reminds me of the American southwest. I'd love those if I lived in a home that was done in southwestern style.

  7. Those wine glasses are super cute! I agree with Almost Precious, I think you can get glass paint so you don't have to worry about the paint coming off. Great project!

  10. hi, Jojo! As usual, some colorful work going over there!
This idea seems to be so nice!
Yes, I do know that this paints are washed away easily. May be you could oil paints instead,I was painting flower pots with them, and they stayed on them pretty well, even after 6-7 years!
Have a nice day! Let me know what you finally invented.

  11. Wow! you've been busy! I like these glasses. They don't look dull to ME! I'm not so clever so I don't have an answer for you about how to keep the dots from washing off!

  13. you need to use paint specifically for glass. Over here we have Pebeo and also Maribou who make glass paints. Once dry they can be hand washed, you can also bake them in the over to seal it.

  14. OK cool, I will buy glass paint next time. I have a basic glass paint set but the quality isn't terrific. I'll have to research the good stuff. Thanks everyone!

  16. Maybe a regular spray paint fixative would work (the kind you use to set and protect charcoal or pastels). They are really pretty.
