Tater Tot Casserole, aka "Hot Dish"

There's nothing better on a cold winter's night than having some comfort food!!  As much as I have always loved Tater Tot Casserole, I've never made it before.  I only ever had it at Sharon & Diane's house when we were growing up.  Diane made it for us when we all ate over there after Christmas, and she gave me the recipe.

Pre-heat oven to 350*.

2 lbs. browned & drained burger.  Set aside.

1 can of Cream of Mushroom soup, undiluted
1 can of Cream of Chicken soup, undiluted

3/4 cup finely chopped celery.

3/4 cup finely chopped onion.

Saute' the onion and celery in some oil to soften.

Mix in the burger.

"Oh Hai! I sees you iz cookin meats? I can haz? Pweeze?"  Sorry Beanie, not this time.

Mix in the 2 soups and heat mixture thoroughly.

Line bottom of 9 x 13 pan or glass baking dish with frozen tater tots.  This recipe will call for almost 2 bags.

Pour burger mixture over the tater tots.

Line top with more tater tots.

Bake at 350* for one hour.  Let sit for a few minutes after baking and serve hot with the veggie side of your choice....we like corn best.

Bon appetite!

  1. Wonder if there's vegetarian version for idiot non-cooks?

  2. You could substitute the meat with the vegetable protein crumbles that look like chopped meat. I used to use that all the time to make shepherd's pie when I was vegetarian and it has the same texture as ground beef. Try it!

Never had Tater Tot Casserole but lived on just the Tots as a kid, LOL. The hashed browns at McDonald's reminds me of them...like a giant Tater Tot that's been ironed out.
