Tons of scallop shells on the beach. We are very particular about how that is pronounced, by the way. It's "SCAH-lup". Non New-Englandahs tend to say it with a more Chicagoesque accent, which is incorrect.

ReplyDeleteBtw, how do Chicago folks pronounce scallop? I don't know if I've ever heard anyone pronounce it any other way....
Well, the only way I can write it out would be to say that people outside New England usually pronounce the 'a' like they would in 'cat', instead of 'all'.

LOL, I haven't heard someone say 'cattywampus' in a coon's age. Because my voice is low I usually say most words with a short 'a' rather than a long one that feels uncomfortable on my throat. Like NEV-AWWW-DA as opposed to NEV-AHHH-DA.
