East Pierce Fire & Rescue Open House - October 2, 2010

Went to get my flu shot at the annual fire department open house in town, so I decided to take my camera in case I saw some interesting stuff.  Glad I did.

All the goggies have their own trading cards, so I picked up a set.

Efficient and swift water rescue boats are a must here in the Northwest, what with all the lakes and rivers.

Jaws of life demonstration.  Remember how loud they used to be when they first came out in the late 70's?  They don't make a sound now at all.

"Once there was this kid who got into an accident and couldn't come to school...." Crash Test Dummies

There were several fruits and veggies wandering around, to encourage healthy eating habits.  I should have taken a pic of them standing next to the hot dog stand.

Smokey says, "Only YOU can prevent forest fires!"

They have the kids ride on tricycles ride up, grab the hose and aim it at the window.  Then they climb up the ladder on the right to save the baby doll, then ride the trike back to the beginning and ring the fire bell.

Sparky.

That looked like a lot of fun. I love going to that kind of stuff.

Not going to get my flu shot though. Didn't get it last year either, but did for the last 5 years before. I don't why, I'm just not convinced it works.

What beautiful dogs! I agree with you, Bev, I only had the flu a few times in my life and don't believe getting a flu shot is going to do any good.

  3. I don't get flu at all, so I can't see me ever getting the shot.

The doggies are lovely. My student now has a Staffy cross from the rescue centre. He's a lovely young dog, very well-balanced (well soneone has to be!)

  7. Our local fire department does this once a year, too. Love going to them. Thanks for sharing the photos!

Already got my flu and H1N1 shots. My asthma makes me one of those people who have to get it. I skipped one year and was very, very sorry. My husband got his, too. His emphysema makes it even more vital for him.

  8. I swear by flu shots. There have only been about 3 times over the last 20+ years that I got sick anyway.
