Scherenschnitte

I've been wanting to try Scherenschnitte, or paper cutting, for a long time now, but no matter how hard I tried, I could not get the scissors to do what I needed. They weren't sharp enough or small enough, and I couldn't use the tips for fine snipping. I finally sucked it up and bought a $45 pair of paper cutting scissors and I'm glad I did. http://www.papercuttingsbyalison.com/

I photocopied the designs onto the back of patterned scrapbook paper, and cut from that side.

These are my first attempts since getting the new scissors. The one on the left is a folded cutting, and the one on the right was just cutting out of large sections.
Then I went through all of my different scrapbook papers to find suitable backgrounds for the cuttings. I used spray adhesive on the back of the cut piece and adhered it to this surreal mountain sunset scene, as if you are looking through a fancy window.
For this one, I'd envisioned a night time snowy winter scene before I even started cutting. I used light blue card stock and fancy cardstock for the snow and night sky.
Now I'm on the hunt for more patterns at Papercuttings by Alison!!

  3. Lovely! I wish I had your patience for crafts. I only do from time to time. Unfortunately it turns out to be years.

  4. Your talent is surpassed only by your patience.

  5. If only I had said patience when I'm commuting, or standing in line behind some bonehead who has to question the price of every item they've just purchased.....

  6. "You are too mucking fuch" as my dear brother is so fond of saying, Jo. So, let me ask ya. If you are standing behind an old lady, fumbling around trying to get change from her purse, what do you think about that senerio? Would you get pissed and say, "Hey grandma get out the way. Ya shoulda had yo money ready by now?" Hahahahahaha. Remember, could be you one day.

    P. S. You know I simply LOVE, LOVE, LOVE your creations. You're simply the best JoJo.

  7. I usually stand there making over exaggerated sighs and muttering under my breath, 'for gods sake lady have your damn money ready, where the hell did you think you were?' or 'god forbid we not get that whopping .15 off a case of cat food..." My mom is like that and she drives me nuts. She'll waste $5 of gas to go all the way back to downtown Sandwich to have Stop & Shop honor the pittance she would have saved from a coupon that wasn't scanned.

And that will NEVER be me b/c I have my checks pre-made out b/f the checker is even done w/ my purchases. All I have to do is write in the amount. ;D

Can you tell it's a sore subject? hahaha Brian even called me from the pharmacy this morning and griped, "GREAT. Two old ladies in front of me." hahahaha

As Bill Bryson once said; 'It's a surprise to some people when they have to pay for things at the checkout!' ;0)

  13. Oh, and about slow lines and retarded shoppers....you should come to my country. We refer to it as "Afican Time". They have absolutely NO regard for any movement at any speed.
