Chatham, Part 2

What a gorgeous day at Harding Beach!  Not much to beachcomb for here though.

That's a tiny little pond on the beach, but I've no idea if it's fresh or salt water.

That's a sea lion in the center of the picture.  Chatham's barrier beach and Monomoy National Wildlife Reserve have been overrun with tens of thousands of sea lions, which means the great white shark sightings, and attacks, have become more frequent.  The beaches in Chatham are often closed because of the sharks.

This was across the water on the barrier beach.

I think this little harbour is called Ryder Cove.

Then I drove to a little place called Cow Yard Landing, which was also very picturesque.

I could have sworn these cottages were all really badly damaged or swept away in the storms.  I did a little online research and found out that there is virtually no time left for these cottages.  The ocean is going to reclaim them any day now, and the town is pushing the owners to pay to demolish them.

Those are RVs out there!

Chatham, Part 1

I finally got a crystal clear day in mid-October to go to Chatham, at the 'elbow' of Cape Cod.  I kind of spaced that it was Columbus Day, which explains why there were so many people in town and why it was so hard to get parking at Harding Beach.  It's a beautiful and upscale place and the tiniest of cottages sell for well over half a million dollars.

This is the library

Placed there by the Village Improvement Club 1914

Beautiful old churches

Then I drove to Harding Beach and was lucky to get a parking spot.  It was jammed.  This is Chatham Light, across from the beach.

Flashback Friday

My cousin Skee Martinelli.  Who is that little girl in the boat?  Skee used to tease me mercilessly when I was a little girl, to the point where I would be so frustrated and start to cry.  I believe I was hiding my eyes because I didn't want to look at him.  The Martinellis came up from Yonkers every summer and rented out my parents' cottage on Spring Hill Beach for a couple of weeks.  He got his comeuppance, however, when I was approximately 7 or 8.  He went into the cellar of the beach house, accessed from large double doors, down in the driveway.  When he went in, I close the doors behind him, hooked the padlock through the lock loop on the door (I didn't lock the padlock, just hooked it to the loop) and fled to the beach, where I waited my impending demise.  I knew I was gonna be in a world of hurt, especially when my parents found out. But...but...but...he just had it coming after years of torture and teasing me!!  As it turns out, this must've been one of those moments where the adults laughed their asses off because I got a slap on the wrist.  When they returned to NY, I was told to write an apology letter.  Said letter was not reviewed by my folks prior to mailing.  Further hilarity ensued when Jeannie called my mom laughing hysterically and read her my letter:  "I'm sorry I locked Skee in the cellar.  My mother is making me write this letter."  Nope.  Not sorry at all.  As I grew older, Skee became one of my favourite people in the world.

Brit Car Club of Cape Cod

I decided to take some snaps of the annual scarecrows in town, and saw this car show/rally in the park. So many mini Coopers!!  They are even almost too small for me.  Russell calls my car the 'go kart with doors'. If he was here, he could wear these cars on his feet as skates!!  lol

This is my new car!  I wish.

This reminded me of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, without the wings.

Original owner since 1960!!  Wow!

Beatles car.
